Asian-inflected Cali cuisine in Century City

When we went to Japan, all we got was debilitating jet lag.

David Myers (Comme Ca, Sona) got a restaurant concept.

Often credited with helping put California cuisine on the map, the noted chef channeled his recent travels along Asia’s Silk Road into a Century City eatery that weds the East’s delicate flavor profiles with the West’s emphasis on fresh ingredients and clean, healthy eating.

Situated on the ground level of The Century luxury condominium, Myers’s fable-esque-sounding creation, Hinoki & the Bird, enchants with naturalist decor (cedar panels, trellised patio) and a friendly, denim-dressed staff.

The don’t-call-it-Asian-fusion menu is divided into sections, including Fun Bites (chili crab toast), Raw Bar (oysters with pear mignonette), and Grilled (sparingly seasoned proteins).

For culinary fireworks, turn to the Inspiration Seekers portion (hinoki-scented black cod, lobster rolls with green curry).

A little birdie told us it’s awesome.
